Domain Registration
The domain is the web site address to your web site. Coming up with a domain name can be a bit tricky and requires creative ideas. When considering a domain name for registration keep the following in mind:
- Short and Easy to remember and spell. You might even consider registering incorrect spellings of the web site address. Long names are hard to remember and most people misspell them. The average person is not a great speller. Don't use special spellings as the main domain name.
- Avoid Numbers and Hypens. Users might not remember a hypen in a name or number when they hear of it from an advertisement or word of mouth.
- Choose a .com. Most people typically assume .com when typing in an address.
- Make sure your domain name is relevant and unique.
- Avoid Misunderstanding. Make sure the domain name you choose does not give the impression that your web site is something else than what it is.
- Avoid Trademark Issues such as misspellings, brand names, and abbreviations.
- Avoid using "s" at the end. If you have a name that ends in "s" you might consider also registering the non-plural spelling of it. You wouldn't want your competition to capture some of your visitors. For example: If your business name is Visual Designs you will want to register visualdesign.com and visualdesigns.com.
You can register as many domain names as you wish and have them forward to your web site. All domains (.com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us, .ws, .name) are billed at $16.95/year with the exception of .tv which are billed at $39.95/year.
E-mail Addresses
Having your own email address at your domain makes your web site look even more professional. Example: info@yourdomain.com. Having an email address hosted at our servers gives you access to web-based email and the option of having the ability to use your favorite mail program such as Microsoft Outlook.
